Subjugation, Liberation and Stabilisation in East Timor

This presentation bridges the gap between history and its relevance to international interventions, and draws on the experience of New Zealand engagement in East Timor.  It looks at some questions for the history of colonial conflict in East Timor, which has some parallels with New Zealand, and considers some of the issues that were relevant, but little-known, in the international interventions in East Timor in 1999 and 2006.
